CRAFT Inefficiency...

We drink a lot in CRAFT (see Figure 1), and since we can't use the CRAFT toilets (see Figure 2), we have to use the toilets outside.

It takes one minute to go to the nearest toilet, and one minute back. This means that effectively, every time a CRAFT member needs to use the toilet, they have to lose 2 minutes. So?

So... There are usually around 20 people in CRAFT on any given day. And on average each person goes to the toilet 2.5 times each day (the 0.5 is because of me) . 2.5 * 2 min * 20 people = 100 minutes / day. Over about 215 days of work per year: that makes 385 hours lost each year!

Now look at our salaries, the lowest earning long-term CRAFT members (PhD students :( ) are paid about 18.5 CHF per hour...

So basically, just having this poster on the toilet in CRAFT is costing 6630.- CHF every year!

Just think of how many aperos we could have with this money! Or better yet, if we were to use all the money on a single apero, think of how cool that apero would be!!

But if two persons want to use the toilet at the same time, one would have to wait. If we use the toilets in the hallway, as there are several toilets, no one needs to wait. Which is a gain of time. Plus, as it is recommended to move a little during the day, the short walk to the toilet is good for the health. And if one is healthy, one is more efficient in his work !

Well first of all, IF and when two or more people need to use the toilet at the same time, then one will use the CRAFT toilet and the others will go out to use the toilets in the corridor.

As for those who recommend moving during work, tell me who they are, and I'll talk to them and let them know what I think of their "recommendations".

To be honest, do you really think that you waste more time going to the toilets than writing stuff for this blog ?

Khaled a dit…

No, but writing stuff on the blog is fun. Walking to the toilet is not fun.

So if I have to waste time, I'd rather waste it on something I actually enjoy.
